Position Summary
The Purchasing and Contract Services department at the University at Buffalo seeks a Buying / Sourcing Specialist to support and execute strategic initiatives in support of university-wide category strategies. The Buying / Sourcing Specialist partners closely with internal and external stakeholder to plan, execute, and operationalize sourcing events by leading RFx activities, conducting market and spend analysis, developing sourcing documentation, and translating sourcing outcomes into contract, supplier, and system readiness within UBs Jaggaer Source-to-Pay environment. This role contributes directly to the advancement of strategic sourcing objectives by supporting supplier selection, pricing and contract structures, and post-award implementation activities, while ensuring compliance with all applicable Federal, State, SUNY, Research Foundation (RF), and University policies and regulations.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
In this position, the Buying / Sourcing Specialist performs a variety of duties, including but not limited to:

  • Work on strategic initiatives for assigned categories by supporting end-to-end sourcing activities, including opportunity assessment, market research, spend analysis, and sourcing event planning.
  • Assist in the preparation and administration of RFx events (RFI, RFQ, RFP, IFB) in Jaggaer, including development of solicitation documentation, coordination of supplier communications, management of timelines, and support of evaluation processes.
  • Support supplier evaluation and selection by conducting pricing and cost analyses, documenting sourcing outcomes, and preparing award recommendations and negotiation materials for review by sourcing leadership.
  • Support post-award implementation and sourcing enablement by coordinating contract documentation, supplier data, pricing structures, and catalog setup within Jaggaer, and tracking sourcing outcomes and contract milestones.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders by serving as a point of contact for sourcing-related inquiries and partnering with Buyers, Sourcing Specialists, legal counsel, SUNY, and RF to support sourcing execution and compliance.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education with 1 year of experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products
  • Basic knowledge of e-Procurement systems
  • Strong written and oral communications



Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree
  • Experience using Jaggaer software
  • Three (3) or more years experience working in public procurement


Physical Demands


Salary Range
$53,000 - $55,000
